LEARN THE LANGUAGE OF ALOHA ACTIVE

  • Mauka - towards the Mountain. ie. when you travel inland.

  • Makai - go towards the sea.

  • Ohana - Family, but much more than just family. It extends from blood relatives to "chosen" family and carries with it an implication of respect and cooperation.

  • Shaka - a hand gesture made by making a hand into a fist , then extending the thumb and pinkie. It expresses gratitude, understanding and solidarity.

  • A 'o ia - an expression to say "you've got it!". Whether you're getting into a new more advanced yoga pose or doing your first pull up, it can be used in almost any context to cheer someone on.

  • Ho'omau - "stick-with-it-ness". It expresses one's ability to persist, to keep going, and to never give up.

  • Kūlia i ka nu’u - a word used to express the buzz you're feeling at the end of a great workout. It means "to do your best" and implies a value in both achievement and excellence.

  • Mahalo - "Thank you", but much more than that... it expresses a deeper sense of gratitude, admiration, praise, esteem and respect.
